wow i was acually thinking of a cake just like this to make for my grandmother for her birthday, glad to know i can go ahead and do it it looks amazing!
I went to culinary school and worked in a bakery and in both places, we would always brush our baked goods with melted “Apricot Jam/Jelly”. The jam comes in a container and it is pretty thick. However, put it in a pan over low heat and stir until it melted and became about the consistancy of maple syrup. This jam would not only add an extra nice flavor, but also add a nice shiny sheen to them . I’m sure there are many others but I thought I’d just let you know one of the possibilities. Cheers!!
That cake looks amazingly delicious. You made me crave for a cake like that. I think the imperfection you mentioned isn’t noticeable. It looks like it was meant to be there. I give yo 12 out of 10! amazing!
whipped cream frosting is pretty common and very popular; it’s usually stabilized using some form of gelatin. as for the clear liquid, it could be anything – pastry chefs use syrup recipes (sometimes just sugar& water, sometimes with fruit or liquor) to infuse different things with different flavors – this bakery you go to could be using a different syrup for every different flavor cake they bake.
Your just the person to ask! Here in Canada we have Swiss Pastries. Once you go Swiss you will NEVER enjoy regular cake again! I found out their icing is whipped cream! AMAZING! How they do it I have no idea. Have you?! I would love to work there but am afraid my joy would be killed. I love to buy their cake slices at two bucks for day old! Sometimes they cut up mistakes or not wanted ones. Many are 50 bucks! They jam brush layers with a sweet clear liquid. What is it? They wont say.
it wasn’t hard, you really just have to dive right in – it looks/feels scary until you actually do it…. do post a video when you try it out, i’d love to see!!
it was a lot of fun, i can’t believe it worked on the 1st try!! ur tut was awesome; one thing I did find was putting it in the freezer for 3-5 mins right after wrapping the collar around the cake gave it a nice shiny finish. I will absolutely be doing this again!!
Israeli bakeries are divine, you’re just subject to crappy school food is all, XP when you come home I’ll make you a massive, insane, delicious cake & hopefully it’ll make up 4 all the cakes u missed over the year!
Strange… I suddenly have a huge craving for chocolate cake! It’s the morning here in Israel, and I doubt there is a place in all of Jerusalem where you can get a proper non Israeli cake! I’m now going to go grumble over some crappy yeshiva food. lol
Hey Mimzy great collar!! I really like it on the rectangle cake. I’ve done circles and squares before, but never a loaf cake. You’re right, it does look like a box full of strawberries. I’m so glad you posted this!

très jolie !
That looks sooo delicious! Great work with the collar.
as I said in the video, I used an Entenmann’s chocolate chip loaf cake, torted it into 3 layers and filled it with my own frosting.
